A clever impersonation scheme involving scammers masquerading as Professor Folasade Ogunsola, the vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has raised alarms.
The university revealed that people are contacting suppliers under the guise of starting formal procurement procedures in a statement issued by Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, Head of the Communication Unit in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
According to the statement, “These individuals are not associated with the university and are participating in unauthorized procurement communications.” “UNILAG uses open, competitive bidding procedures to rigorously comply with Nigeria’s procurement laws.”
The public was advised by the university to exercise caution. Check any correspondence using the official UNILAG email accounts. Requests involving kickbacks or covert transactions should be avoided. Any communications received from personal platforms or non-UNILAG domains should be ignored.
The university recommends getting in touch with communicationunit@unilag.edu.ng or vcoffice@unilag.edu.ng for confirmation or to report questionable communications.
