The management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has announced the extension of the sale of postgraduate application forms for the 2025/2026 academic session. Originally scheduled to close on Friday, 31st October 2025, the new deadline is Sunday, 30th November 2025.
This extension gives more applicants the chance to complete their registration and join one of Nigeria’s leading postgraduate institutions.
How to Apply
Interested applicants should visit the Postgraduate College portal at https://pgc.abu.edu.ng for full details of available programmes, requirements, and application procedures. Alternatively, they may apply directly through https://portal.abu.edu.ng/forms.
To complete the process successfully, applicants must:
- Pay a non-refundable fee of ₦10,000 (excluding bank charges).
- Upload a 300-word research proposal if applying for a PhD programme.
- Provide valid phone numbers and email addresses for official communication.
- Ensure they meet the minimum entry requirement of five O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics, obtained in not more than two sittings.

Entry Requirements
General Requirements
All applicants must possess a minimum of five relevant O’Level credits or an equivalent combination of O’Level and A’Level qualifications such as IJMB, HND, HSC, or NCE. In every case, a credit in English Language and Mathematics is compulsory.
Master’s Degree
- Candidates with an HND (Upper Credit) are not usually eligible for a Master’s programme unless they hold a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in a related field.
- Applicants with a Third-Class degree may be considered if they also possess a PGD or have at least five years of relevant work experience.
- Holders of Pass degrees or HND below Upper Credit are not qualified for postgraduate admission.
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
- Applicants must hold a Master’s degree with a research thesis component and a minimum CGPA of 3.5.
- Candidates with a professional Master’s or without a thesis may be considered for an M.Phil. programme first. Those who achieve a CGPA of 3.5 or above may then upgrade to a PhD.
- Prospective PhD students should contact their department to confirm supervision availability before final selection.
If a student cannot complete their programme within the approved duration, the university may award a PGD or M.Phil., where applicable.
