The Tanzanian government and its top university have bestowed a noteworthy honor on Dr Akinwumi Ayodeji Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), in recognition of his groundbreaking leadership and development accomplishments across Africa.
Dr Adesina received an honorary Doctor of Science degree last Friday during the 55th Graduation Ceremony (Cluster 1) of the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). His broad influence on Africa’s socioeconomic advancement and his steadfast support of Tanzania’s development aspirations were acknowledged with the award.
Receiving an honorary degree from Tanzania’s most esteemed institution is a great honor for me. For this amazing honor, I am grateful to the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor, University Council, academics, and staff.
Dr Adesina has led significant changes under the Bank’s “High 5s” development strategy—Light Up and Power Africa, Feed Africa, Industrialise Africa, Integrate Africa, and Improve the Quality of Life for the People of Africa—since taking office as AfDB President in 2015 and winning reelection in 2020.
