The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi has officially opened applications for its 2025/2026 postgraduate programmes. If you’ve been considering advancing your studies at one of Nigeria’s top federal universities, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

ATBU Postgraduate (PhD) Admission Form for 2nd Semester, 2024/2025

Applications are open for Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD), Master’s Degrees, and PhDs. The online form costs ₦11,000, and the deadline is 7 November 2025. Therefore, interested candidates are encouraged to begin the process early.

Basic Requirements

For PGD (Postgraduate Diploma)

You should have:

  • Five O’level credits, including English Language and Mathematics
  • A third-class degree or HND with at least lower credit
  • Relevant work experience if your degree is not closely related to your desired programme

For Master’s

You must present:

  • Five O’level credits, including English Language and Mathematics
  • A first degree with at least a second-class lower from ATBU or another recognised university
  • If your CGPA is between 2.40 and 2.99, you need three years of post-graduation work experience
  • If you have a third-class degree, then five years of work experience is required
  • HND holders must also complete a credit-level PGD
  • Some applicants may need to sit for an entrance test

For PhD

You should meet the following:

  • A Master’s degree in a related field with a minimum CGPA of 3.50
  • Five O’level credits, including English Language and Mathematics
  • A written research proposal (uploaded online and also sent as a hard copy to your intended department)
  • You may be asked to take a qualifying exam or undergo a short probation period

🔹 Engineering PGD courses last 24 to 36 months.
🔹 There is no part-time option for PGD or Master’s.

How to Apply

Applications are processed online via the ATBU Postgraduate Portal from 23 June to 7 November 2025.

What You’ll Need

  • A valid email and phone number
  • Scanned copies of all certificates
  • NYSC discharge or exemption certificate (mandatory for all)
  • Transcript sent directly from your former institution to the Head of Department of your chosen programme
  • For PhD, a research synopsis uploaded during application
