The community of Eruku in Kwara State is in shock after armed bandits attacked a Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) branch during a service on Tuesday evening, November 18, 2025. The incident reportedly claimed three lives, while several worshippers — including the pastor — were abducted.

What Happened?
According to eyewitness reports, the church was holding a regular worship session when sudden gunshots interrupted the service, forcing people to run for safety. A viral video from the live-stream shows the congregation panicking as the gunfire grew louder.
Moments later, over five armed men entered the church, seized personal belongings, and allegedly took away some worshippers, including the young pastor leading the service.
A source explained:
“They came in while everyone was praying. They started shooting, and three people died instantly. They later gathered some worshippers and marched them into the bush.”

Community Reaction
The attack has raised serious concerns about security in worship centres. Residents are frightened and calling for urgent government intervention to protect lives and restore peace in the area.
Many locals say they now fear gathering in public spaces, especially at night. Some have also urged churches to improve safety measures and limit evening services until security improves.
Bigger Issue: Rising Attacks on Places of Worship
Sadly, this is not an isolated case. In recent years, several schools and religious centres in northern Nigeria have been targeted by armed groups. Some international voices have even raised concerns about possible religious attacks, but the Nigerian government insists the issue is more linked to banditry and insecurity, not religion.
What Needs to Be Done?
Community members and leaders have called for:
✔️ Increased security presence in border communities
✔️ Improved intelligence gathering
✔️ Protection for churches, mosques, and schools
✔️ Support for families of victims
✔️ Quick rescue operation for abducted worshippers
Final Thoughts
This tragic incident has once again highlighted the dangers faced by many rural communities in Nigeria. As families mourn and hope for the safe return of their loved ones, the call for stronger security measures has never been more urgent.
May the victims rest in peace — and may the abducted worshippers return safely.
🙏 Peace and safety should never be a privilege — it must be a right for every Nigerian.
