General Admission Requirements
Basic O’Level Requirements
All applicants must first satisfy BSU’s O’Level requirements:
- A credit in English Language (mandatory for all courses)
- A credit in Mathematics for Sciences, Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Environmental Sciences, and Educational Management
- A Pass in Mathematics for all non-Science Education Courses
- A credit in Economics for all Management Sciences
- A credit in Literature in English for English, Law, Theatre Arts, Languages & Linguistics.
- NCE Use of English / English major is acceptable for certain programmes
- IJMB O’Level credit passes in English & Mathematics may be accepted
- A-Level passes automatically supersede O-Level results
Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)
Duration:
- Minimum: 1 year
- Maximum: 2 years
Entry Requirements:
- A minimum of Third-Class Bachelor’s degree OR
- HND with at least Lower Credit from a recognised institution
- NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate
- Five credit passes at O’Level including English & Mathematics
Master’s Degree Programmes (M.A., M.Sc., M.Ed.)
Duration:
- Full-time: 4 – 6 semesters
- Part-time: 6 – 11 semesters
Admission Requirements:
- Minimum of Second Class Lower in a relevant Bachelor’s degree
- OR a PGD with Credit level
- Candidates may be required to sit for qualifying exams in some departments
- Five relevant O’Level credits including English & Mathematics
Special Master’s Programme – Molecular Biology & Genomics
Under the Global Institute for Infectious Diseases Control, candidates must hold a degree in any of the following fields:
Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, or related disciplines — with at least Second Class Lower Division OR Upper Credit PGD in Microbiology.
Ph.D. Programmes
Duration:
- Minimum: 3 years (full-time)
- Maximum: 5 years (full-time)
Admission Requirements:
- A good Master’s degree with minimum CGPA of:
- 3.50 on a 5-point scale, or
- 3.00 on a 4-point scale
- Candidates may be asked to take Departmental examinations
- Research proposal (for Law and selected fields)
General Regulations
All BSUM postgraduate programmes begin with coursework and end with Project / Dissertation / Thesis, depending on the degree.

- Click on Postgraduate Application under “Applications” section
- Fill in pre-registration details and submit
- Print the generated Application Number
- Proceed to Fidelity Bank with your Application Number
- Pay the ₦20,000 non-refundable fee
- Return to the portal to complete your full application online
- Upload credentials, transcript request form & referees’ forms
- Print the completed form for reference

- Late application (after 30 days) attracts an extra ₦5,000 fee.
