Cross River Tragedy: JSS3 Student Hacks 23-Year-Old Man to Death in Bekwara

A tragic incident has shaken the Ugboro community in Bekwara Local Government Area of Cross River State after a Junior Secondary School 3 (JSS3) student, identified as Ogbeche, allegedly hacked a 23-year-old man, Oshen, to death within the premises of Ugboro Secondary School.

Altercation Turns Deadly

Eyewitnesses reported that the tragedy began with a heated fight between Ogbeche and another student. Oshen, known in the community as a peacemaker, stepped in to separate the two in an attempt to calm the situation. Instead of diffusing the tension, his intervention reportedly enraged Ogbeche, who allegedly stormed off, retrieved a sharp weapon—believed to be a machete—and launched a brutal attack on Oshen.

Victim Confirmed Dead

Oshen sustained severe injuries during the assault and was rushed to a nearby medical facility. Sadly, doctors confirmed him dead on arrival due to excessive blood loss and trauma.

Troubling History of Aggression

Community sources revealed that Ogbeche had a history of violent behavior, often engaging in fights with both peers and adults in the area. Residents allege that repeated warnings about his behavior had gone largely unchecked until this fatal incident.

Arrest and Community Outrage

Local authorities quickly intervened, arresting the teenager. He has since been remanded at the Ogoja Correctional Centre pending further investigation and possible prosecution.

The shocking death has sparked widespread outrage and grief across Ugboro. Community leaders are now calling for:
