Kalou Predicts Osimhen as Top Scorer

Kalou, a 2015 AFCON champion with Ivory Coast, believes Osimhen is the strongest contender for the tournament’s Golden Boot.

He said:

“If I am to pick one name for the highest goalscorer for the AFCON, it’s definitely going to be Osimhen. The Galatasaray forward is in incredible form, and the Super Eagles’ group gives him the chance to start fast.”

Kalou added that early fixtures against Tanzania and Uganda could allow Osimhen to score multiple goals. According to him, once Osimhen builds momentum, “he becomes almost impossible to stop.” He praised the striker’s hunger, mentality and ability to produce goals at crucial moments.

Why Kalou Backs Nigeria to Win AFCON 2025

Kalou also tipped Nigeria to lift the trophy, noting that the Super Eagles have one of the most dangerous attacking setups in the competition.

He explained:

“With Osimhen leading the attack, they have one of the most feared strikers in world football. Add the creativity of Ademola Lookman and Samuel Chukwueze, plus Wilfred Ndidi’s stability in midfield, and you see a team with balance and depth.”

According to the former Hertha BSC and Feyenoord winger, Nigeria’s attacking trio is capable of troubling any defence on the continent.

Super Eagles Lose Friendly Without Osimhen

Meanwhile, Nigeria suffered a 2–1 defeat to Egypt in a friendly match played at the Cairo International Stadium on Tuesday, December 16. Osimhen and Moses Simon did not feature in the game, as reported by the London Standard.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to leave Egypt for Morocco on Thursday, December 18, as preparations intensify for the tournament.
