NECO 2025 SSCE Results Released

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE Internal) results, 54 days after the last written paper. The announcement was made by NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, during a press briefing in Minna, Niger State, on Wednesday.

Key Highlights of NECO 2025 SSCE Results

  • Total registered candidates: 1,367,210 (685,514 males and 681,696 females).
  • Total candidates who sat for the exam: 1,358,339 (680,292 males and 678,047 females).
  • 5 credits and above (with English & Mathematics): 818,492 (60.26%).
  • 5 credits and above (irrespective of English & Mathematics): 1,144,496 (84.26%).

Prof. Wushishi emphasized that this year’s results reflect a steady improvement in performance compared to past years.

Candidates with Support Needs

NECO also recorded 1,622 candidates with support needs, broken down as follows:

  • Hearing impairment: 586 males, 355 females
  • Visual impairment: 111 males, 80 females

This highlights the Council’s commitment to inclusivity in Nigeria’s education system.

Examination Malpractice

Cases of malpractice dropped significantly in 2025:

  • 2025: 3,878 cases
  • 2024: 10,094 cases

This represents a 61.58% reduction, which NECO attributed to improved monitoring and stricter guidelines.

However, the Registrar revealed:

  • 38 schools across 13 states engaged in mass cheating.
  • Nine supervisors from Rivers, Niger, FCT, Kano, and Osun states were recommended for redlisting due to misconduct, aiding malpractice, poor supervision, lateness, and unruly behavior.

Disrupted Examinations

In Lamorde Local Government, Adamawa State, eight schools were affected by communal clashes between 7th and 25th July 2025, disrupting exams in:

  • 13 subjects
  • 29 papers

NECO confirmed that discussions with the Adamawa State Government are ongoing to reschedule these exams.

State Performance Ranking

According to NECO’s breakdown:

  • Kano State ranked 1st with 68,159 candidates (5.02%).
  • Lagos State ranked 2nd with 67,007 candidates (4.93%).
  • Oyo State ranked 3rd with 48,742 candidates.
  • Gabon centre recorded the least performance with zero candidates scoring five credits and above, including English and Mathematics.

NECO’s Transition to Computer-Based Testing (CBT)

As part of ongoing reforms, NECO announced its shift from the Paper-Pencil Test (PPT) model to the Computer-Based Test (CBT) model. The first phase of this transition has already begun with several private and public schools participating.

This change aims to:

  • Reduce waiting time for results
  • Enhance transparency and efficiency
  • Align Nigeria’s examinations with global best practices
