NYSC DG Warns Corps Members Against Negative Social Media Use

The Director General (DG) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has issued a strong warning to the 2025 Batch ‘C’ Corps members during his address at the NYSC Delta State Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku. He cautioned that any negative social media post made by Corps members would attract serious sanctions.

Instead of spreading harmful content, he encouraged them to create positive content that promotes both the NYSC Scheme and Nigeria’s image.

Key Instructions to Corps Members

While addressing the Corps members, Brigadier General Nafiu gave clear guidance on how they should conduct themselves. He advised them to:

  • Follow simple instructions and remain obedient
  • Ensure regular biometrics attendance
  • Participate actively in Community Development Service (CDS)
  • Respect the cultural values of their host communities
  • Represent the Scheme positively at their place of primary assignment

He added:

“Follow instructions, be obedient, go for your biometrics and participate in your Community Development Service. Learn and respect the cultural values of your host communities and do not misrepresent us at your primary assignment.”

Camp Situation Report

Earlier in the session, NYSC Delta State Coordinator, Mr. John Kwaghe, presented a detailed camp update to the DG. According to him, 2,101 Corps members were deployed to Delta State—944 males and 1,157 females. He further noted that camp activities have been running smoothly, with all officials and Corps members showing high levels of discipline and participation.

The DG reminded the Corps members that their actions—both online and offline—shape the public image of NYSC. Therefore, he urged them to be responsible, disciplined, and patriotic throughout their service year.
