Students are being forced to take the WASSCE English in darkness.

Thousands of Nigerian Students were forced to sit for their English language portion of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination WASSCE late into the night in dangerous and dimly illuminated circumstances.

In response, WAEC issued an apology, citing “unforeseen challenges” in the distribution and administration of exam materials. However, the apology did little to quell public anger.

Students had to use lamps, flashlights, and phone torches to write the test till 9:45 p.m., according to reports from many states, including Delta, Oyo, Benue, Osun, and Ogun.

WAEC has not yet fully explained the circumstances surrounding the nighttime exams or the measures being taken to ensure that they don’t happen again.
