A shocking tragedy has unfolded at Soun High School, Ogbomoso, Oyo State. A teacher, Mr. Fatai Adegoke, lost his life after he tried to stop a group of students from gambling during school hours.

According to eyewitnesses, Mr. Adegoke caught the students gambling inside a classroom and attempted to discipline them. However, the situation escalated quickly. The students allegedly attacked him, beating him severely and breaking parts of his limbs. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but he later died from his injuries.
Community and Teachers Express Outrage
The news has sparked widespread anger. A group of concerned educators issued a statement condemning the assault, describing it as “a cruel attack on the teaching profession.” They noted that Mr. Adegoke was a committed and principled teacher who simply tried to enforce discipline in the school environment.
Teachers’ associations are now calling on the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), and the police to take immediate action. They want the students responsible for the attack identified, arrested, and prosecuted.
