From Nkawkaw, a community tucked away in Ghana’s Kwahu Mountains, Beatrice’s Somuah. As a happy Mastercard Foundation Scholar, she got fully funded at the University of British Columbia (UBC) to pursue a Master’s in Geomatics for Environmental Management.
Beatrice’s interest in climate resilience and sustainable urban development in Africa was ignited by my upbringing in an area beset by environmental deterioration and a lack of chances. Obtaining the scholarship from the Mastercard Foundation.

Advice for Upcoming Candidates. Be true to yourself. Your vision, values, and stories are important. These scholarships target applicants who are dedicated to changing the world, not just those with good marks. Make connections with other candidates, rely on mentors, and don’t be scared to ask for assistance.
