The University of Port Harcourt mourns the loss of a Student.

Mr. Godwin Francis Akpakpan, a 300-level Computer Science student, was tragically shot and killed after an off-campus incident involving security personnel, according to confirmation from the University of Port Harcourt (UniPort).

The university expressed its sympathies to Akpakpan’s family, classmates, and the whole student body in a statement released by Dr. Sammy Kpenu, the public relations officer. The institution made it clear that the shooting took place off campus.

The NANS Rivers State Joint Campus Council Chairman, Comrade Jokiel Gideon Chinonso, denounced the action and called for justice. “We want an open and prompt inquiry. We are prepared to organize demonstrations and close campuses around the state if nothing is done,” he said.

The institution has assured the public of its commitment to preserving the well-being and dignity of the campus community and asked its employees and students to maintain composure and let the authorities carry out their investigations.
