43-year-old Gets Good MCAT Score, Starts Medical Degree.

43-year-old American mother of four Shamone Gore-Panter has beaten the odds by going back to school to pursue her long-time desire of becoming a doctor. After putting her aspirations on hold for almost ten years.

Shamone was pushed by a coworker to take a practice MCAT, promising to take the actual test if she received a score higher than 500. She exceeded the goal and took the official exam with confidence, earning a score of more than 500.

A meaningful discussion about the COVID-19 vaccination with her expectant niece also prompted her to return to medicine. Shamone was reminded of her love for activism and public health while educating her family on the topic.

“This is what I should be doing every day,” she said.

It hasn’t been easy juggling the responsibilities of medical school and parenthood, but Shamone says her sense of purpose and her family’s support have kept her going. In order to supplement her education with practical experience, she currently visits patients once a week.

Shamone’s ambition of becoming a doctor and helping others will finally come true when she receives her medical degree in 2025 and hopes to specialise in family medicine.
