The Federal Ministry of Education took notice of the “Petition to Defend Yoruba History from Ethnic Distortion in Nigerian Textbooks,” which was presented by the Concerned Citizens of Yoruba Origin and Supporters of Truth via its National Chairman, Otunba Abayomi Odunowo.

Concerns over purported historical errors in a history textbook written by Tony and Ijeoma Duru and released by Tones Publishers are brought up in the petition.
Claims in the book about Ile-Ife’s foundation have reportedly been characterized as deceptive and perhaps detrimental to national unity.
The Ministry has no connection to the book, and it is not one of the recognized teaching resources for use in public basic education schools nationwide.
Signed Boriowo Folasade, Director of Public Relations and Press.
