UNN medical student expelled for exam malpractice.

UNN medical student expelled for exam malpractice.

Published on Jun 10, 2025 • Education

University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) medical student has resorted to social media to protest what he sees as an unfair expulsion due to suspected exam fraud. The student, who wishes to remain anonymous, used the account @injusticeunec on X (previously Twitter) to communicate his perspective.

He claimed in his heartfelt article that the charge was unexpected and that the school's decision was not supported by any reliable evidence. He called the encounter distressing, saying:

The student said that after taking his second MBBS Physiology test on November 1, 2024, he was in his third year and was ready to move on to the 400 level when everything changed.

The consequences were far more disastrous. He then learnt that approximately 60 students from the schools of medicine and medical rehabilitation were also impacted by the exclusion of his results in physiology, anatomy, and biochemistry.

"I'm speaking out because power abuse is made possible by quiet. There was no opportunity for an appeal or a fair trial. During the test, we switched scripts, the dean, Prof. Esom, informed the Senate. That never took place.

Seven months later, on May 28, 2025, the student said that the issue was eventually taken before the university's Senate, where it was decided to expel all 59 of the accused students without giving them a chance to defend themselves.

He urged responsibility and changes to the university's disciplinary procedure as he wrapped up his job.
