Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) has made a bold decision to alleviate the severe teacher shortage in public schools by employing 1,300 administrative employees for teaching positions across the state.

Following data collecting that showed 3,422 employees, including supervisors, were holding non-teaching positions—many of whom are certified teachers.

The decision was given by NSUBEB Executive Chairman Dr. Kassim Muhammad Kassim at a meeting with education secretaries from 18 development areas and 13 local government regions.

"A teacher shortage cannot be justified while competent individuals work in administrative capacities behind desks," Kassim said.

He underlined that the majority of the redeployed employees will be sent to rural regions, where there is an urgent need for instructors.
