PTDF Invites Applications for 2026/2027 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme (OSS)

Published on Feb 10, 2026 • Education

The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) has officially opened applications for the 2026/2027 Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme (OSS). This highly competitive programme targets qualified Nigerians who wish to build advanced expertise and strengthen local capacity in the oil and gas industry.

Importantly, the scheme focuses on developing skilled professionals who can contribute directly to Nigeria’s energy sector. As such, PTDF aligns the scholarship with national manpower needs and global best practices.

What the PTDF Scholarship Covers

To remove financial barriers, PTDF provides full funding for successful candidates. Specifically, the scholarship covers:

Tuition fees

Return flight tickets

Health insurance

Bench fees (where applicable)

Living expenses

As a result, scholars can focus fully on their studies and research without worrying about costs.

Scholarship Categories and Study Destinations

Following a recent restructuring, the scheme now supports both Master’s (MSc) and Doctorate (PhD) programmes across selected international destinations.

MSc Scholarships

Candidates can pursue Master’s degrees in:

United Kingdom

Germany

France

Malaysia

PhD Scholarships (General)

PTDF offers full PhD funding for programmes in:

Germany

France

Malaysia

PhD Scholarships (United Kingdom – Split-Site)

For the UK, PTDF now runs PhD programmes exclusively as a Split-Site arrangement. Under this model, scholars begin and complete part of their research at the PTDF College of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), before moving to a partner UK university.

The approved UK partner universities are:

Robert Gordon University

University of Strathclyde

University of Portsmouth

This structure ensures strong local grounding while maintaining international research standards.

Eligibility and Key Requirements

PTDF seeks high-performing Nigerian graduates with a clear academic track record. In addition, applicants must choose courses that directly relate to the oil and gas value chain.

Therefore, candidates should ensure their academic background, proposed field of study, and career goals align closely with the objectives of the scholarship.

How to Apply

Interested and eligible applicants should submit their applications online through the official PTDF portal:
