Introduction
Hi guys, welcome to today’s tutorial. In this lesson, we will be dealing with Numbers and Numeration. By the end of this teaching, we’ll also tackle practical questions to test your understanding.
If you’re preparing for WAEC, NECO, JUPEB, NABTEB, or JAMB, mastering this topic is essential, as it forms the foundation of mathematics.
Let’s get started with the questions and answers.
Whole Numbers
Definition:
Whole numbers are non-negative integers starting from zero.
Key Point: Non-negative means numbers cannot be negative.
Examples of whole numbers: 0,1,2,3,4,5
Looking at the number line:
- On the positive side, we have 0,1,2,3.
- On the negative side, we have -1, -2, −3, but note that negative numbers are not whole numbers.
Characteristics of Whole Numbers:
- They start from zero and extend to infinity.
- They do not include fractions.
- They do not include decimals.
- They are mainly used for counting and ordering numbers.

The denominator of a fraction is determined by the number of equal parts a whole is divided into.
