Published on Sep 1, 2025 • Education

The review was conducted in cooperation with all important stakeholders, including the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and pertinent departments within the Ministry, according to Professor Sulaiman Said Ahmad, who spoke on behalf of Hon. Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa CON.

She said that in addition to simplifying the courses, the review process aimed to enhance the content to facilitate deeper learning. Primary 1–3 students can provide a minimum of nine and a maximum of ten subjects, whereas Primary 4–6 students can offer ten to twelve subjects. Students can choose from 12 to 14 subjects for junior secondary school. Eight to nine subjects are offered at the Senior Secondary level, although nine to eleven subjects may be offered at technical schools.

Professor Ahmad stressed that the updated curricula will provide students more study time and less content overload. She said that this action shows the government's dedication to providing high-quality education that is applicable, useful, and sensitive to students' needs in the quickly evolving world of today.

All parties involved in the review process deserve praise from the Federal Ministry of Education for their dedication and cooperation, which resulted in a more robust and forward-looking curriculum for Nigerian students. In order to ensure successful acceptance and a seamless transition in schools across the country, the Ministry also guarantees the public that the updated curricula will be implemented under close supervision.
