I never thought I would earn a First-Class Law degree.

I didn't have an easy time in school. A missing document cost me the chance to pursue my original goal of studying law at the University of Ibadan. Even though I scored 281 on the JAMB, I was still not admitted to the University of Lagos to study law. I thought about changing to English, but my mother urged me to try again at Olabisi Onabanjo University.

The epidemic then struck. I had to take my Post-UTME mock exam at home due to technical issues. I tried to repair it, but I had to travel to Ogun State to write it from my aunt's place, only to encounter more problems. After only seven questions, my account was logged out. I questioned at the time whether college was really for me.Thank goodness, my uncle took over. A generous university ICT employee—a veritable angel in disguise—gave me another opportunity to retake the test. That was when my hope was restored. In 2021, after over three years of attempting, I was accepted to study law.

I didn't have big goals at first; all I wanted was to graduate. I received an A in Legal Method, however, during my first semester. A fire started because of that one grade. Despite my 3.52 GPA and some shocking experiences, I came to the realisation that I cared more than I acknowledged. I still had the same motivation from secondary school.

The Law of Contract was the pivotal moment. Fearful that I would have to repeat the exam, I walked into the exam room. But after using what I had learnt, I was astonished to get an A. That's when I began to believe in myself. Another significant event occurred when I received an A in Labour Law, despite the fact that I had hardly studied because I had fallen asleep the night before. I was inspired to strive for a first-class degree by the victory.

I wasn't alone on my journey. Senior coworkers, friends, and mentors provided me with resources, support, and guidance. Instead of rushing to gather resources, their notes allowed me to concentrate on learning. My belief in myself was influenced by theirs.

I got really into it by 300-level. My interest in criminal and commercial law grew significantly. A B in criminal law was painful, but my lecturer's criticism helped me grasp the material better. A perfect 5.0 GPA was achieved the next semester. My development at 400-level was almost halted by emotional difficulties. When the results were announced, I received a terrible D in Law of Evidence.

After I filed an appeal, I found out that my Continuous Assessment score had not been entered. I persevered through a difficult and uncertain period. Finally, the error was fixed. My first semester GPA in my senior year was 4.75. However, I was upset by my B in Company Law because I enjoyed the course and believed I did well. The lecturer, according to a classmate who received an A, valued succinct, accurate responses. That realisation transformed everything. I put everything into practice, and I finished my last semester with a 5.0 GPA. I now have a CGPA of 4.53 when I graduate.

In retrospect, this was undoubtedly the most difficult thing I have ever done. But it taught me to be strong, to believe in my own abilities, and to appreciate those who helped me along the way. You can have a strong end without having a flawless beginning. You can be successful even in chaos. You're sufficient. You are not by yourself. You can also triumph.
