The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, announced the holiday on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
FG’s Message to Muslims and Nigerians
The government congratulated Muslims across Nigeria and abroad, encouraging them to emulate the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.
Furthermore, Nigerians of all faiths were urged to use the celebration to pray for peace, unity, and stability in the country.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo specifically called on the Muslim Ummah—and Nigerians at large—to embrace the spirit of patience, sacrifice, and resilience during this period.
Call for National Prayers
While congratulating the Muslim community, the Minister also implored citizens to seize the opportunity of Eid-ul-Mawlid to pray for:
- Enduring peace
- National unity
- Greater prosperity
- A truly egalitarian nation
The statement ended with warm wishes to all Muslims as they commemorate this sacred occasion.
