WAEC Sets 2026 Deadline for Full CBT Exams
Published on Sep 5, 2025 ⢠Education

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has rolled out the key facilities schools must provide ahead of the 2026 migration of WASSCE to full computer-based testing (CBT).
The announcement came from the Head of Examinations, Mr. Lucky Njoagwuani, during a sensitisation programme in Port Harcourt on Thursday.
Mandatory Requirements for Schools
According to WAEC, schools that want to host CBT exams must provide:
- At least 250 functional laptops plus 10% backups.
- A robust computer server that can support 250 systems at once.
- A Local Area Network (LAN) setup.
- Functional air conditioners and lighting.
- Uninterrupted electricity with a 40kVA generator.
- CCTV cameras for surveillance.
- A holding room or reception area for candidates.
Njoagwuani explained that the CBT model will reduce logistics costs, boost exam security, and expand accessibility.
WAECâs Step-by-Step Rollout
âWe started with the fourth series of our private candidate exam two years ago, and it was successful. This yearâs second-series exam for private candidates is fully CBT with no pen-and-paper option. Invariably, next yearâs school candidate exam will also be fully computer-based,â he said.
WAEC Warns: No Lower Standards
The Port Harcourt Zonal Coordinator, Mr. Adeniran-Amusan Akim, urged schools to upgrade their ICT centres now. He stressed that WAEC will not compromise:
âAny school that wants to host exams must provide the full equipment and infrastructure. Otherwise, candidates will be redirected to designated centres,â Akim stated.
Support for Schools
The Rivers State Chairman of NAPPS, Mr. Sunday Jaja, encouraged proprietors to use funding options from the Bank of Industry and the Federal Governmentâs MSME intervention fund.
âTechnology drives modern education. This initiative prepares schools for the digital age,â he said.
Event Highlights
The sensitisation event was organised by Teadro Systems Ltd, NAPPS, and partners, including Bank of Industry, HP, Lenovo, and Canon.
The highlight of the event was the donation of ICT gadgetsâcomputers, printers, and tabletsâdistributed to schools through a raffle draw.
