University of Jos Makes ID Cards Mandatory for Campus Access

The University of Jos has announced that all staff and students will be required to visibly wear identification cards to gain access to its campuses starting from the first week of March 2026.The directive was communicated through an internal memorandum issued by the Office of the Vice-Chancellor via the Security Division.
ID Tag Categories
According to the memo signed by Acting Chief Security Officer Agama Solomon Tangni:
Green tags will be used for staff
Blue tags will be used for students
Newly admitted students will be allowed temporary access using their school fees receipts until their official ID cards are produced.
Collection and Production of Tags
The University noted that some faculties have not yet collected their ID tags from the ICT Directorate. Consequently, Deans and Heads of Departments have been instructed to submit complete staff lists to the ICT Directorate for tag collection.
Importantly, the ID tags are being provided free of charge.
Meanwhile, the ICT Directorate has begun an intensive production process to ensure all members of the University community receive their ID cards before enforcement begins.
Reason for the Directive
The University explained that the measure is part of broader efforts to improve campus security and reduce unauthorized access.
Management stated that the policy aims to curb crime and strengthen safety across all campuses.
Final Advisory
Staff and students are advised to cooperate with the directive by obtaining and wearing their ID cards at all times on campus.
The University emphasized that collective compliance will help maintain a safer learning environment and support its goal of ensuring that the campus remains a secure and conducive place for teaching, research, and learning.
