Presidential Aspirant Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju Quits DLA Over Primaries

In a move that has shaken the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, Mrs. Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju has officially resigned her membership from the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA). The presidential aspirant cited a lack of transparency and a failure by the party to uphold internal democratic processes as the primary reasons for her exit.
The Core Dispute: Consensus vs. Competition
In a strongly worded resignation letter addressed to the DLA National Chairman, Busari-Akinnadeju criticized the party’s decision to adopt a consensus arrangement for its presidential flag bearer. She argued that this move undermined internal democracy and effectively stifled fair competition among aspirants.
"I do not resign in defeat. I resign because I am not permitted a fair contest, and I will not lend my name to a process that has abandoned its own rules," she stated. She further emphasized that a political party unable to conduct a fair primary process among its own members lacks the credibility to promise transparency to the nation.

Demands for Accountability
Beyond her resignation, the Ondo State-born politician has issued a formal demand for:
-
Refund of Nomination Fee: She is requesting a full refund of the presidential nomination fee she paid, arguing that the party failed to provide the "consideration"—a fair and lawful primary—for which the payment was made.
-
Return of Documents: She has also demanded the immediate return of all personal credentials and documentation submitted during her engagement with the party.
Future Ambitions: The "Dare Nigeria" Movement
Despite her departure from the DLA, Busari-Akinnadeju made it clear that her political journey is far from over. She reaffirmed her commitment to the 2027 presidential race and her "Dare Nigeria" movement.
She expressed profound gratitude to the grassroots supporters who stood by her ambition, noting that their dedication has only strengthened her resolve to pursue political reform. "My commitment to the 2027 presidential race and the Dare Agenda… is undimmed and is, in fact, strengthened by what I have witnessed," she concluded.
