Sarah Akinkunmi, a Nigerian research student at Tohoku University’s Human-Informatics Laboratory in Japan, getting ready to start her Master’s program in Robotics and AI.
During her undergraduate studies, she attended optional classes in robotics and mechatronics, which sparked her interest in the field. In her master’s study, now working towards a lifelong goal: using reinforcement learning approaches to improve disaster response systems.

Concerning the MEXT Scholarship
The MEXT (Monbukagakusho) Embassy-recommended Scholarship was awarded to her in 2024. She is glad it worked out that I just included Tohoku University in my application.
The whole tuition is covered by the scholarship.
Research students get a monthly stipend of ¥145,000, while master’s students receive ¥146,000.
