To improve international educational links, the Russian government has launched a major project to provide 500,000 scholarships to foreign students, including Nigerians.

Andrey Podelyshev, the Russian ambassador to Nigeria, announced this development during a press conference in Abuja, stressing Russia's updated plan to strengthen diplomatic and educational ties with Africa.
Podelyshev said that at least 220 scholarships including tuition, living expenses, and travel expenses have already been awarded by the Russian government to Nigerian students for the 2025 academic year.
"The program is a component of a larger strategy to increase African students access to higher education in a variety of fields at Russian universities," he said
