RSU Grants Temporary Relief on “No ID Card, No Exam” and “No Fees” Policies

Published on Mar 9, 2026 • Education

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Rivers State University (RSU), Port Harcourt, has announced that it secured temporary concessions from the University Management to prevent students from being barred from upcoming examinations.

The development was disclosed in a press statement released on 8 March 2026 by the SUG President, Martins Marvelous Chukwumeka, following urgent discussions with the Vice-Chancellor.

The relief measures mainly target students affected by delays in the NELFUND loan processing and those who have not yet received their physical student ID cards.

Concession for NELFUND Beneficiaries

Students whose NELFUND loans have already been disbursed but have not reflected on the University portal have been given temporary clearance.

Affected students should:

Visit the Bursary Unit immediately

Present their NELFUND disbursement slip for authentication

Once verified, such students will be allowed to:

Sit for their examinations

Manually sign the examination attendance register while their fee status is being updated.

Temporary Alternative for ID Cards

The SUG also addressed concerns about students who applied for ID cards but have not yet received them.

As a temporary arrangement, students may use Evidence of Application, which can be:

A screenshot of the request slip from the student portal

A printed copy of the application confirmation

This document will be accepted for both campus entry and examination access until the physical cards are issued.

Important Reminder to Students

While welcoming what he described as “fatherly concessions,” the SUG President emphasized that the measures are temporary.

Students have therefore been urged to:

Complete outstanding financial obligations

Resolve ID card issues as soon as possible

Keep all required documents ready before their examination dates

The SUG encouraged students to remain calm, stay focused on their studies, and comply with the university’s requirements to avoid further complications.
