FG warns universities over unauthorized satellite campuses.

Published on Jun 5, 2025 • Education

All federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education that run unauthorized satellite campuses have received a strong warning from the federal government, which has threatened to impose penalties on those who break the rules.

Concerned about the growing number of universities opening unapproved satellite campuses without getting permission from their respective oversight bodies—the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE)—Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa announced on Wednesday.

As a remedial action, Alausa has instructed the relevant regulatory bodies to notify the institutions they oversee that no satellite campus may be created without the Minister of Education's prior written consent obtained via the proper regulatory procedures.
