Top Secrets to Pick the Correct JAMB Answers — Even When You’re Clueless

Published on Apr 14, 2026 • Education

No matter how hard you study or practice questions for upcoming JAMB exams, there will always be questions that leave you confused, stuck, or completely unfamiliar.

In this guide, you’ll learn powerful, practical strategies to help you handle such questions and still pick the correct answers with confidence.

1. The Elimination Method

This is one of the most powerful exam techniques you can use.

The elimination method simply means reducing the number of options to at least two by removing the most illogical answers. Once you narrow it down, you can make a better 50/50 decision.

You can use this method whether:

  • You have some idea about the question
  • You are completely clueless

Example:

A biology question might ask:
Photosynthesis occurs best at what time of the day?

Options:

  • 6:00 a.m.
  • 9:00 a.m.
  • 12 noon
  • 6:00 p.m.

Using elimination:

  • Remove 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (little or no sunlight)
  • You’re left with 9:00 a.m. and 12 noon

Now you can confidently choose between the two.

Key takeaway: JAMB is not about knowing everything — it’s about reducing mistakes.

2. Look for Grammatical Clues

This is especially useful in Use of English.

Always check for:

  • Tense agreement
  • Singular vs plural consistency

Example:

  • “She go to school” ❌
  • “She goes to school” ✅

JAMB will never set a grammatically incorrect option as the correct answer.

So even if you don’t know the answer, eliminate options that are clearly wrong grammatically.

3. Watch for Similar Options

If two options look very similar, one of them is likely correct.

Example:

  • Increase
  • Increasing
  • Increment
  • Growth

Focus on the similar pair (Increase / Increasing), then relate them back to the question.

This helps you narrow your focus quickly.

4. Extreme Options Are Usually Wrong

Be cautious of options that use words like:

  • Always
  • Never
  • Completely
  • All

These are absolute terms, and JAMB rarely uses absolute truths.

Most correct answers are moderate, not extreme.

5. The Longest Answer Trick

Often, the most detailed and specific option tends to be correct.

However, be careful:

  • JAMB can also create long but incorrect (misleading) options

So don’t just pick the longest blindly — read and apply logic.

6. Cross-Check with the Question Logic

Always ask yourself:

  • Does this option directly answer the question?
  • Or is it talking about something else?

The correct answer will match the question logically and directly.

7. Use Common Sense

Common sense can save you when you’re stuck.

Example:
If a question says:
Photosynthesis occurs at night

You should immediately know that’s wrong because photosynthesis requires sunlight.

Don’t overthink simple logic.

8. Never Leave Any Question Blank

Always attempt every question.

  • A guess can earn you marks
  • A blank answer gives you nothing

Even random guessing is better than leaving it unanswered.

Final Advice

  • Your first instinct is often correct
  • Avoid overthinking — it leads to mistakes
  • Stay calm and apply these strategies consistently

With these techniques, even questions you don’t know can still earn you marks.
