The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) formally increased the percentage of its matching fund allotted to quality assurance operations from 2% to 5%, to improve learning outcomes and education monitoring across Nigeria.
UBEC Executive Secretary Dr. Aisha Garba said the rise reflects UBEC's increased emphasis on thorough monitoring, assessment, and data-driven decision-making at the opening session of a three-day training and strategy workshop in Abuja. Zonal Directors, State Quality Assurance Officers, and Directors from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory attended the event.
The need of ongoing internal assessment procedures was reiterated by Ada V. Ogwuche, Director of Quality Assurance at UBEC, who also commended Dr. Garba's leadership. She urged attendees to see quality assurance as an enduring institutional culture and to actively participate in the training.
