After verifying additional instances in the area, Prof. B.T.O. Ikegwuoha, the state's commissioner for primary and secondary education, announced on Sunday. According to him, at least three further instances were found in neighboring families, and three children had already been away.

"We've closed all schools in the affected communities to prevent further spread because the loss of these young lives is tragic," Ikegwuoha said.

He called on parents, teachers, and administrators to adhere to the instructions in the letter.
