UI Students’ Union Reviews Intra-Campus Transport Fares, Warns Against Overcharging

The University of Ibadan Students' Union, through its Complaints Committee (Task Force), has released a revised schedule of intra-campus transport fares. With this update, the Union has cautioned transport operators against overcharging students and residents within the University.The new rates take immediate effect. According to the notice, the fares now range from ₦100 to ₦600, depending on the destination. Furthermore, the Union has made it clear that any overcharging will be treated as extortion and will attract appropriate fines.
Breakdown of Approved Fares
From the Main Gate, the approved fares are as follows:
₦100 – Queens Hall, Mellanby Hall, SUB
₦200 – Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Social Sciences
₦300 – Awo Stadium, Poly Gate, Ajibode
₦400 – Lakoto
₦600 – “Car Drop” services
In addition, the Union published special rates for tricycle drops:
₦300 – For routes where the single-passenger fare is ₦100
₦500 – For routes where the single-passenger fare is ₦200
By standardizing these rates, the Union aims to ensure fairness and transparency across campus.
Call for Compliance and Reporting
The Students’ Union has urged all transport operators to comply strictly with the reviewed fare structure. At the same time, it encouraged students to report any instance of overcharging.
Through this action, the Union reaffirmed its commitment to protecting students from exploitation and maintaining order in campus transportation.
Students are therefore advised to take note of the approved fares and remain vigilant while commuting within the University.
