UNIBEN Postgraduate Admission Form 2026/2027: Requirements, Fee and How to Apply

The University of Benin has opened applications for Admission into its postgraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.

This update is important for graduates who want to further their education at UNIBEN through Postgraduate Diploma, Master’s degree, Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy programmes.

According to the admission notice, suitably qualified candidates can now apply for postgraduate programmes available across different schools, faculties, institutes and centres of the university.

General Admission Requirements

Candidates applying for postgraduate admission at the University of Benin must have the required academic qualifications for their chosen programme.

Applicants are generally expected to have at least five O’Level credits in WASC, NECO, GCE or equivalent examinations.

The university may also consider candidates with four O’Level credits plus OND, NCE, IJMB, Advanced Level passes or other approved qualifications, depending on the programme.

Candidates should note that holders of pass degree or pass diploma are not qualified for postgraduate admission at UNIBEN.

Also, candidates with a Third Class degree who wish to apply for a Master’s programme must first possess a Postgraduate Diploma before they can be considered.

M.Phil. and Ph.D. Requirements

Candidates who obtained a Master’s degree with a weighted average score between 55% and 59% may be considered first for admission into an M.Phil. programme.

For Ph.D. admission, applicants must have obtained a minimum weighted average score of 60% in their Master’s degree.

Candidates applying for Ph.D. with a Master’s degree from another university may be required to take and pass some compulsory courses or their equivalents at UNIBEN after admission.

This means Ph.D. applicants should read the departmental requirements carefully before applying.

NYSC Certificate Requirement

Only candidates who have NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificates will be allowed to clear into the postgraduate programme.

Applicants should make sure their NYSC document is available before completing the application process.

Referee Reports

Candidates are required to print out the referee forms provided on the application page.

The referee forms must be properly completed and returned directly to the Secretary, School of Postgraduate Studies.

Applicants should take this seriously because applications may not be processed if referee reports are not available.

UNIBEN Postgraduate Application Fee

The application form fee is ₦22,000 only.

Candidates are to purchase the form online using a valid Verve or Master ATM bank card.

Applicants should avoid making payment through unofficial persons or private accounts. All application processes should be completed through the approved UNIBEN postgraduate application portal.

Candidates who are offered admission into UNIBEN postgraduate programmes will be required to pay a non-refundable acceptance fee.

The acceptance fee is ₦60,000 only.

The fee must be paid before admitted candidates can be cleared.
