Government NECO Syllabus
Below is the 2026 NECO Government Syllabus for both internal and external candidates.
Aims and Objectives
The syllabus is designed to enable candidates to:
-
acquire knowledge of the principles, institutions, and processes of government.
-
understand the structure and functions of government at different levels.
-
appreciate the importance of citizenship and civic responsibilities.
-
develop political awareness and national consciousness.
-
understand the constitutional development of Nigeria.
-
examine the role of government in maintaining law, order, and development.
-
understand international relations and the role of international organizations.
-
develop critical thinking and analytical skills in political and governmental issues.
Scheme of Examination
There will be two papers, Paper I and Paper II, both of which must be taken.
Paper I
Will consist of fifty multiple-choice objective questions covering all sections of the syllabus.
Duration: 1 hour
Marks: 50
Paper II
Will consist of essay and structured questions.
Candidates will be required to answer questions from different sections of the syllabus.
Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
Marks: 100
