Yoruba Language NECO Syllabus
Below is the 2026 NECO Yoruba Language Syllabus for both internal and external candidates.
Aims and Objectives
The syllabus is designed to enable candidates to:

acquire a sound knowledge of the Yoruba language.

communicate effectively in spoken and written Yoruba.
-
understand the grammatical structure of the Yoruba language.
-
appreciate Yoruba culture, traditions, and values.
-
develop reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in Yoruba.
-
understand and analyze Yoruba literary works.
-
preserve and promote the Yoruba language and cultural heritage.
-
apply Yoruba language skills in everyday communication.
Scheme of Examination
There will be two papers, Paper I and Paper II, both of which must be taken.
Paper I
Will consist of fifty multiple-choice objective questions covering all aspects of the syllabus.
Duration: 1 hour
Marks: 50
Paper II
Will consist of essay and structured questions.
Candidates will be required to answer questions from different sections of the syllabus.
Duration: 2 hours
Marks: 100
