Islamic Studies NECO Syllabus
Below is the 2026 NECO Islamic Studies Syllabus for both internal and external candidates.
Aims and Objectives
The syllabus is designed to enable candidates to:

acquire a sound knowledge of the teachings and principles of Islam.

understand the significance of the Qur'an and Hadith as primary sources of Islamic guidance.
-
develop moral and spiritual values based on Islamic teachings.
-
appreciate the life and mission of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
-
understand the historical development of Islam and Islamic civilization.
-
apply Islamic principles to personal, social, and national life.
-
promote peaceful coexistence, justice, honesty, and good character.
-
develop the ability to analyze contemporary issues from an Islamic perspective.
Scheme of Examination
There will be two papers, Paper I and Paper II, both of which must be taken.
Paper I
Will consist of fifty multiple-choice objective questions drawn from all sections of the syllabus.
Duration: 1 hour
Marks: 50
Paper II
Will consist of essay and structured questions.
Candidates will be required to answer questions from different sections of the syllabus.
Duration: 2 hours
Marks: 100
